STEPS 1–3

Get set up

1

Click the £50 link

Hit the orange button anywhere on this site. Our Refer a Friend link opens edfenergy.com in a new tab and drops a first-party cookie identifying our account as the referrer. No forms, no personal details captured on our end.

2

Choose your EDF tariff

Pick a fixed, variable, or EV tariff at edfenergy.com. The tariff price and terms are identical whether you arrive via our link or edfenergy.com directly — the £50 credit sits on top.

3

Complete the switch

EDF handles the switchover: opening meter reads, notifying your outgoing supplier, setting up the direct debit. Takes ~14–21 days from application to supply going live under EDF.

STEPS 4–6

Get paid

4

Wait through cooling-off

Under UK consumer regulations you have 14 days to cancel a new energy contract without penalty. The £50 credit is provisional during this window — if you cancel, it’s voided completely.

5

Receive your first bill

Roughly 4–6 weeks after your supply goes live, EDF generates your first monthly bill. This is the trigger event for the £50 credit — EDF confirms your account is active and in good standing.

6

£50 lands on next bill

Around ~12–14 weeks after switch completion, £50 shows up as a “Referral credit” line item on your bill. It reduces the total due by exactly £50 — no cash-out step needed.

TIMING REALITY CHECK

How long does the £50 actually take?

EDF only pays after they’ve confirmed you’re a real, active customer. That’s why business, prepayment, and same-address second-account applications are excluded — they’d bypass verification.

What can void the £50

Three most common ways referrals fail to credit — worth double-checking before you switch.

Comparison sites

Uswitch, MoneySuperMarket, Compare the Market — any comparison-site referrer overrides ours. Click our button, complete the switch on edfenergy.com in one session, no side-trips.

Cancelling in cooling-off

If you cancel within the 14-day cooling-off window, the £50 is voided entirely. After cooling-off but before ~14 weeks, EDF may withhold the reward — not automatic clawback but not guaranteed either.

Business or prepay supply

Business supply is on a separate EDF programme with different terms. Prepayment meter (PPM) supply is excluded across all UK supplier RaF schemes. Only qualifying domestic tariffs credit the £50.
